In the Spring of 2024 I got an opportunity to attend the immersive 12-Week Craftsman Program at Rosewood Studio, a woodworking school in Perth, Canada. The program focuses on giving students the skills to create their own handcrafted furniture using a mix of hand tools and machinery. In the program, I attended lessons on wood technology, shop safety, hand and machine tooling, joinery, veneering, bent lamination, and knife sharpening. I came away with innumerable soft and hard skills, and gained a newfound proficiency in fine furniture-making. Through this experience I learned the importance of time and craft in the furniture-making process. Creating a shaker nightstand, a wall-hung cabinet, and a veneered round table became a testament to these values.
